Blackburn Rovers have made their third signing of the summer with the arrival of Danish international defender Lars Jacobsen.

Following on from the arrivals of Elrio van Heerden and Gäel Givet, the right-back, who was available as a free transfer, has signed for the Ewood Park club on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old started his career at his hometown club Odense, making 112 appearances before moving to Hamburg in 2002. In a two-year spell with the Bundesliga side he made 22 appearances before switching back to Denmark to play for FC Copenhagen.

It was at Copenhagen that he really made a name for himself, quickly earning international recognition to become the Dane's first choice right back. During his three year stint he made more than 100 appearances.

At the end of his contract he returned to Germany to play for FC Nuremberg but he didn't feature regularly and when the Bundesliga side were relegated he joined Everton on a season long deal.

However a dislocated shoulder picked up on international duty last summer meant that his time at Goodison was disrupted by injury, but in the latter half of the season he started to force his way into the first team. Eventually he made six appearances, including playing the second half in Everton's FA Cup final defeat at the hands of Chelsea.

Jacobsen currently has 22 international caps to his name and with Denmark riding high at the top of their World Cup qualifying group, a solid season with Rovers could see him cement a place in next summer's World Cup squad in South Africa.
