Blackburn Rovers can confirm the signing of defender Gäel Givet from Olympique Marseille.

The tough tackling French international has signed a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Signed initially on loan with an option to purchase by manager Sam Allardyce in January 2009, Givet has been a revelation at both left back and in the centre of defence during his six-month loan spell.

Strong displays in his 18 league and cup appearances saw Rovers quickly make moves to take up the option to make the move permanent, and with all paperwork finally being completed he is now a Blackburn Rovers player.
