Striking legend makes Rovers return

Posted on: Fri 19 Jun 2009

ROVERS legend Simon Garner made a welcome return to Ewood Park last night for a special question and answer session in Blues.

The club's record league goalscorer took part in 'An Audience with Simon Garner' - the latest in a series of events organised by the newly-formed Former Players Association.

Around 200 fans packed into Blues to hear Simon talk about his career with the club.

The event, which was hosted by Rovers TV frontman Neil Yardley, also featured a special Simon Garner quiz, which was won by 'The Lincolnshire Poachers'.

Simon said: "The time I spent at Blackburn was the happiest of my career and I love coming back. The fans have always been brilliant with me and it's really heart warming to know they still remember me with such affection."

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Former Players Association, which was set up earlier this year to provide help and financial support for any ex-Rovers stars who might have fallen upon hard times.

In May, the BRFPA also staged a similar evening with Kevin Gallacher and Jason Wilcox and there are plans for more supporter events, with details for the next one set to be revealed over the summer.

Simon Garner is pictured with several members of his fan club at last night's event.
