Rovers to appeal Roberts red

Posted on: Mon 25 May 2009

Blackburn Rovers will appeal to get Jason Roberts' red card overturned.

The Rovers striker, back in the side after being sidelined with a foot injury for the last seven weeks, saw red after an off the ball incident with West Brom defender Jonas Olsson just ten minutes after coming on as a second half substitute, a decision that Allardyce felt spoilt the final game of the season.

"Unfortunately the referee somewhat spoilt our day, sadly," said the Rovers manager. "And again it's a decision that, according to the referee and according to the officials, Jason has punched Olsson.

"It's nothing of the sort. I don't know where he's got it from. If we'd have won we would've jumped two places today and that was £1.5million extra which for a club like ours is very important.

"We must appeal immediately for that red card because that's three games into next season before we even kick off. So it was a dampener for what I thought was an incorrect decision."
