Tugay to start against Baggies

Posted on: Fri 22 May 2009

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Tugay will play against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday - the Turkish midfielder's final game before retirement.

The manager has also expressed his relief at not being directly involved in the end-of-season Premier League relegation dogfight.

"Tugay will play, there is no doubt about that," said Sam. "He has been in good form in the last few games and I'm sure he will get a fantastic send off from the supporters at Ewood. If we can win - better still.

"As for the relegation situation, I have first hand knowledge (at Bolton) of trying to stay up right at the death. I have to say it was one of the hardest weeks of my management career.

"It is very difficult to cope in terms of what you do with your players, all the speculation that comes around it and all the permutations.

"It is difficult to sleep, it is difficult to pick your side and it is difficult to prepare the players. But, thankfully, we don't have to do that I'm glad to say, it is a huge relief to sit back and read about all the other teams involved. My heart goes out to them all."

See Tugay in action in the final time, in the last game of the 2008/09 season against West Bromwich Albion. Tickets for the match are on sale to those Rovers supporters with a database history of purchasing tickets to Rovers matches.
