Cup winner Matt

Posted on: Tue 05 May 2009

Matt Derbyshire grabbed two goals for Olympiakos as they won a dramatic Greek Cup final on Saturday.

The Rovers striker, who has been on loan at Olympiakos since January, came off the bench at half time when the Greek champions were losing 2-0 to AEK Athens.

And he made an immediate impact, scoring within two minutes of his introduction to reduce arrears.

Dudu levelled for Olympiakos with 18 minutes to go but ten-man AEK looked to have won the match when Scocco regained the lead for them on 90 minutes.

But deep into injury time Derbyshire struck again to send the game into added time, in which Galletti then put Olympiakos in front for the first time in the match.

However the Blackburn-born striker was then sacrificed in added time as Olympiakos were reduced to nine men, the Piraeus club unable to hold onto their 4-3 lead as AEK then made it 4-4.

Penalty kicks couldn't seperate the sides either, some 33 penalty kicks were taken before Olympiakos goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis fired the crucial winner to win it 15-14.

The goals for Derbyshire made it eight from 13 appearances for the 23 year-old during his spell in Greece.

Friends and Family offer for the Portsmouth game

Plymouth duo Alan Judge and Paul Gallagher ended their loan spell on a low note as they were defeated 2-1 on the final day at home to Barnsley. With Norwich's loss on Monday night it meant Plymouth went into the game secure of their Championship status, whilst Barnsley still needed a point to be sure of survival themselves.

It had started well for the Pilgrims when Gallagher's inswinging corner was nodded in early on but Barnsley hit back scoring twice. Alan Judge hit the bar for the home side also.

In League One, Carlisle United were the team that survived the dreaded drop on the last day of the season, any two from Carlisle, Crewe or Northampton were to be relegated but Carlisle's 2-0 home win over play-off bound Millwall meant they were the team to survive. Tony Kane was an unused substitute for Greg Abbott's side.

In League Two Rochdale went down 1-0 to play-off rivals Gillingham. The two will meet once again in the play-offs at the end of the week. Frank Fielding was once again in goal for Keith Hill's side.
