I was due that one!

Posted on: Tue 28 Apr 2009

Ryan Nelsen hopes it isn't another 140 games before he finds the back of the net once again.

After four years at the club, the New Zealand international finally broke his goalscoring duck with his glancing header against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, much to his relief.

"I think I was due one and thankfully the gods smiled on me and I managed to sneak one in," Ryan told Radio Rovers.

"I knew that if just I got the slightest touch and it would go goalwards, but knowing my luck it was going to hit the post and go out, so I was just glad it went the other way.

"It was a feeling I've never experienced with Rovers, it was a bit of a blur, I didn't really know what to do, I just got mobbed by all the boys.

"It was really good, it was an important time to get the second goal.

"Keeping a clean sheet was for me the most important thing out of the game and to get the three points."

After grabbing his first goal, Nelsen is now gunning for top scorer Benni McCarthy, warning the South African he's now on his trail!

"I just hope now it won't take me another 140 games to score my second. I'm off the mark now so I'll be gunning for Benni for the golden boot. I've eleven to go but I'm after it!"
