A chance to make amends

Posted on: Sun 26 Apr 2009

Ryan Nelsen is determined to put some demons to rest when Rovers take on Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park this afternoon.

Rovers were on the wrong end of a comprehensive 3-0 defeat the last time the two sides met and the club captain is keen to set the record straight.

"I've been looking forward to this game for some time to be honest," he said.

"It was our worst performance of the season so far and so this is our chance to make amends."

The December defeat turned out to be former manager Paul Ince's final game in charge and Ryan believes the time was right for Rovers to act.

"I think we'd hit rock bottom after that defeat," he added.

"I got on very well with Paul and I'm certain he will go on to become a fantastic manager, but the Board were right to make that decision when they did.

"Sam has got a lot of experience at this level and he was aware of what needed to be done to keep us in this league."
