Big Sam hopeful of double striker boost

Posted on: Sat 18 Apr 2009

SAM Allardyce is hopeful Jason Roberts AND Roque Santa Cruz will both be fit in time to play some part in the run-in.

The two strikers are set to miss this afternoon's clash with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium due to metatarsal and knee injuries respectively.

However, Big Sam is optimistic he will have both men back 'sooner rather than later'.

The Rovers chief said: "Roque went to Germany and had a little clean-out of the knee and that was very, very successful.

"There is no long-term lasting damage at all so hopefully he'll recover as quickly as possible, and then be able to play in some of the games before the end of the season.

"I'm not ruling him out or Jason Roberts either, and, obviously, the quicker we can get them back, the better."
