The fans lifted the players

Posted on: Sun 05 Apr 2009

Boss Sam Allardyce was once again full of praise for the supporters after Rovers came from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in a dramatic late finish to the game at Ewood Park on Saturday.

After being dealt the blow of a harshly awarded penalty in the first half, Rovers, backed by a vociferous home crowd, roared back to claim all three points thanks to goals from Benni McCarthy and Andre Ooijer.

And speaking to Radio Rovers after the game, Allardyce was delighted with the backing the team received:

"We didn't play so well but they kept on singing.

"They kept on trying to lift us and generally you have to do something on the pitch to lift the fans, but they did a job by trying to lift the players when they were struggling a little bit and not playing to their best.

"The fans were still trying to get behind them and that is very very important."
