Rovers stars on World Cup duty

Posted on: Sat 28 Mar 2009

Rovers trio Keith Andrews, Zurab Khizanishvili and Andre Ooijer will all be hoping to play their part in World Cup qualifiers later today.

After scoring an impressive equaliser in Rovers' last outing at home to West Ham, Keith will look to carry over his fine club form onto the international stage when the Republic of Ireland host Bulgaria at Croke Park.

At the opposite end of the Group 8 table, Zurab's Georgia face fellow strugglers Cyprus in Larnaca.

Andre, meanwhile, will hope to be fit for Holland's Group 9 clash against second-placed Scotland in Amsterdam.

Further afield, Rovers team-mates Aaron Mokoena and Morten Gamst Pedersen are expected to go head-to-head when South Africa take on Norway in the annual Nelson Mandela Challenge match in Rustenburg.

Finally, captain Ryan Nelsen will lead out New Zealand in the first of two international friendlies against Thailand in Bangkok.
