Sam Allardyce was left to lament on chances lost as Rovers missed out on the chance to do the double over Everton.

The home side created a host of chances against David Moyes' 6th placed Everton, but couldn't convert and had to settle for a point.

But whilst the Rovers boss was frustrated at the lack of clinical finishing, he was delighted with the application from the players.

"I think that it was a great effort from the lads," said Allardyce on Radio Rovers after the game. "We played on Sunday and we had to turn out here again tonight.

"I think the lads put in a tremendous effort in, in the first half it was difficult to break down a very good Everton side, but in the second half we dominated and the chances came but we didn't convert one."

Ahead of the game Allardyce had spoken of the desire for his defence to get back to keeping clean sheets, and whilst Rovers did that, they should have been celebrating at the other end also.

"We got that all-important clean sheet against Everton, but didn't convert one of the very good chances we had.

"Roque, just after half-time, put one wide, Jason Roberts with a one on one, Warnock with a free-kick that hits the bar, and Aaron Mokoena with a header that he doesn't get enough on and puts it wide.

"So you can't ask for any more chances that, unfortunately tonight we just couldn't convert it into a goal that would have given us a precious three points.

"But it is another point towards the total, four points out of six isn't too bad, I know it puts us in the bottom three but we are still going well, it is only two defeats in ten, so things are looking okay but it could have been better tonight if we had converted one of those chances.

"We go to Fulham a week on Wednesday now and we see that Hull won there and have broke their dominance at home, so hopefully we can do the same."
