Sam Allardyce felt Jason Roberts could easily have been a hero at Middlesbrough.

Introduced as a second-half sub for Benni McCarthy, Roberts responded with a super show and was denied a late winner by a great save from Boro keeper Brad Jones.

"Jason had a real impact and was very unlucky not to have won it for us," said the manager.

"He was disappointed not to start, but came on and put up a very strong show.

"It was also great to see Roque Santa Cruz get 90 minutes under his belt."
