We need to be ruthless - Sam

Posted on: Fri 30 Jan 2009

Sam Allardyce is looking for Rovers to show a ruthless streak when they tackle Middlesbrough at the Riverside tomorrow.

Ahead of what he described as a critical game, the manager said: "We have been scoring goals freely at home, but haven't been able to convert enough chances on our travels.

"We have had many opportunities in two stalemates with Sunderland and it took a fantastic free-kick to beat Blyth Spartans.

"Our goals record away from home is a concern.

"But we we showed against Bolton when we had 18 attempts at goal, 14 of them on target, that we have no problem as an attacking force.

"Our confidence is high after a seven-match unbeaten run and if Middlesbrough's confidence is low, then we must try to exploit it.

"We will be on our guard though, because you can never discount the law of averages in this game. Bolton was a prime example the other night, when they came here after a long run without a goal to then score two against us inside the first half."
