Vince Grella hopes to put his injury nightmare behind him and get back to doing what he knows best - playing football.

Rovers fans have only seen glimpses of the former Torino midfielder in action this season and the 29-year-old admits it has been a frustrating start to his career with the club with just four appearances since his move to the Ewood Park club in August.

"There isn't much you can do about it when you are injured," said Grella. "When you are back on the pitch and you can perform to a certain level then everyone will forget about the injuries. And I want to get out there to show the manager how I can play."

"It has made it a bit harder, I've come here to play football and not playing has frustrated me. If it didn't then there would have to be some questions asked."

But having now recovered from the calf injury that kept him out of the squad for the last eight weeks, he just wants to prove his worth to the team and to the new manager Sam Allardyce.

"I'm hoping to impress myself by staying on the pitch for a while. From what I've seen of the manager I think I can do a good job for him.

"I want to get myself fit and I don't want my first impressions when I'm out on the pitch to not be the right impressions, so I'm working very hard to do everything right so that when I am out on the pitch there are no excuses and he sees the player that Blackburn bought in the summer."
