Ince: We've let the fans down
Boss Paul Ince felt the team had let the Rovers supporters down after their 3-0 loss to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
More than 3000 fans turned up to see Rovers take on the Latics at the JJB Stadium, and after the improved showing against Liverpool at Ewood last weekend, Rovers went into the game in good heart. But a disappointing display from all quarters left the fans venting their frustrations towards the manager.
"I'm really disappointed, we are all hurting in there," said the Rovers boss after the match." After last week against Liverpool the signs were that we were going to start to turn it around.
"We believed it, the fans, who have turned up in large numbers today, believed it and we have let them down big time and the players have been told that.
"The facts are that you can't give a side a two-goal start after fifteen minutes, as a manager you can't legislate for that. We spoke before the game, we spoke in training, everyone is up for it and then you are suddenly 2-0 down.
"They were poor goals to concede.
"In the second half we played a bit better, but 45 minutes in the second half isn't enough when you are 2-0 down.
"What typified it was in the last minute when we should have scored and we still couldn't put the ball in the back of the net, that typified our whole day."
The Rovers fans let their feelings known towards the Rovers boss during the game, and Ince understands their frustrations.
"I understand that they are frustrated, as a manager you can prepare the team, give them all the information they need, but they are the ones that cross that white line.
"I shoulder the blame, but everyone has to shoulder the blame, the fans were fantastic today, they came to cheer us and we let them down.
"But we have to keep believing, that is the most important thing, we have to keep believing and they need to stick with us."
