Coaching badges will be done
AFTER getting special dispensation from the Premier League for Rovers to employ Paul Ince as their new manager, John Williams has outlined the process the club went through, and what Ince has to do over the next few years.
The new Rovers boss couldn't be installed until the Premier League gave the green light due to Ince not having the required coaching qualifications.
"The Premier League quite rightly made us work very hard to give certain undertakings about Paul and these badges," said the Rovers Chairman. "It was quite obvious to all of us that Paul didn't meet the requirement of the rule - rule Q4 - there was never any dispute about that.
"But we always thought Paul was an outstanding candidate, but he couldn't be a candidate finally until dispensation was given regarding the badges and that eventually came through on Friday afternoon.
"The Premier League were very thorough, we knew that they had in the past granted dispensation to the rule and basically our case for dispensation was that Paul had served his apprenticeships in the lower leagues and had been busy since he'd retired as a player.
"Along side that we gave an undertaking that we would go along with a timeline, a very strict and disciplined timeline that Paul now has to complete the courses and get the qualifications.
"Paul has signed a contract of employment with Blackburn Rovers where that undertaking is actually a contractual term. I have every reason to believe that the timeline will be adhered to."
Ince added: "Blackburn have been fantastic, it would have been easy for John Williams with all the troubles with the badges to just go and get someone else who had his qualifications, but he pursued the matter and he's given me faith and belief in myself and that is a great start.
"It is a thing that needs to be done, it says in my contract that I've got two and a half years to do it, it will be done in two and a half years - all of them, and as far as I'm concerned thats the end of the matter."
