Benni: Happy to be here

Posted on: Tue 04 Mar 2008

BENNI McCarthy is ready to commit his long-term future to Blackburn Rovers.

The 30-year-old striker has two years left on his current contract, but the club are already in discussions with his representatives about a new deal, much to the delight of the South African.

"I'm very happy here, I don't have any complaints," said McCarthy at Monday's Season Ticket launch.

"I'm just going to concentrate on football, I'm no rocket scientist, I'm no lawyer, I don't know anything about that stuff. At the end of the day I just like to hope that the club gets everything agreed so I can put pen-to-paper and thats it, then I can just get on with what I do best and that is to play football."

Last season's top-scorer with 24 goals, McCarthy admits that things haven't gone the way he would have liked this term, but with a brace against Bolton last time out at Ewood taking his goal-tally to 11 for this campaign, the Rovers striker is concentrating on ending the season on a high.

"I'm fully focused, there are ten more games left and I can't be more focused than what I am now. Contract talks and the paperwork will sort themselves out, but the football won't, we as players have to sort that out for ourselves, we've got to work as a unit, work as a team if we want to play champions league.

"This club is very ambitious, their main ambition is to play Champions League football. They all know that before I hang up my boots from football completely I want to play in the Champions League again and the fact that the club has that in mind in the next few years then that will do for me.

"That makes me happy, I can do that easily, I can pledge my future here. I hope things get sorted out soon."
