A very good day - Hughes

Posted on: Sun 24 Feb 2008

MARK Hughes will be wanting Rovers to train in sunnier climes each and every week if they produce the sort of outcome witnessed at Ewood Park this afternoon.

After a week training in Florida Rovers returned to chilly Lancashire to register a much-welcomed home win over their near neighbours.

Penalty kicks from Benni McCarthy cancelled Kevin Davies' leveller just after the restart, but further goals from David Bentley and Morten Gamst Pedersen meant a valuable three points to the home side.

"I think everybody saw the sharpness in our play today, certainly in the first half" said Mark Hughes on Radio Rovers after the game. "I thought we were excellent and were good value for the 1-0 lead.

"We expected a response from them and that was the case, but weathered that, we came through it and scored at the right times and were good value in the end.

"It was important that we won today, we've got games coming up that we very much fancy our chances in.

"We've had a really positive performance and result, I felt our players made a statement about what they are all about, it is a great win for us, all in all a very good day."
