Defender blow

Posted on: Tue 12 Feb 2008

ROVERS could be without influential defender Andre Ooijer for a number of weeks.

The Dutch international limped out of Monday night's defeat to Arsenal with a suspected hamstring injury.

It is an untimely blow for both player and the club as the 33 year-old has been in fantastic form in recent weeks.

"He's been playing excellent, he's got fantastic experience, he's played in huge games all across Europe and that experience comes to the fore," said Hughes.

"Of late he has probably been our outstanding performer and we are disappointed that it looks like we are going to lose him for a number of weeks now.

"We hope it is not too bad with Andre, it is obviously going to take a couple of days before we know the full extent of the injury, I would imagine if it is the hamstring again then it is going to be a minimum of three to four weeks.

"But by the time the game against Bolton comes around Chrissy Samba is available so that softens the blow somewhat."
