Hughes delighted with display

BOSS Mark Hughes felt that his side got what they deserved today as Rovers defeated Bolton 2-1 at the Reebok.

As has been the case with alarming regularity in recent weeks, Hughes' team once again had to come from behind after Nolan's stunning volley, but second half goals from Christopher Samba and Jason Roberts ensured that it was Rovers who ended this Lancashire derby with the points.

"I thought collectively we were excellent today, certainly in that second half when we asked a lot more questions of Bolton," said Hughes after the game.

"Our play was dynamic and purposeful and we deserved the victory in the end."

The win over Bolton ensures Rovers have now won their last three games and has firmly banished the blues of November and the early part of December.

"It was all doom and gloom just prior to Christmas," added Hughes "And we had a slip-up in the cup but there were reasons behind that, but we've taken ten points out of the last twelve and three of those games were away from home and we are in good shape. We are very much in the mix in the top half of the table now.

"We went behind once again, I think it is something like eight games that we have conceded the opening goal and been able to come back and take points out of the game, that illustrates the strength of character and determination in the squad.

"I was really proud of everybody connected to Blackburn today, there was a lot of speculation surrounding the game prior to the kick-off, so for us to put in the performance that we did showed us in good light.

"We are enjoying ourselves, we are in a good position, we are playing well, we are back on track and we always view the second half of the season as the stronger part of our season, so we are looking forward to what's ahead of us."

One of the more pleasing aspects of Rovers' victory over Gary Megson's side was the return to action of five key players. Midfielders David Dunn and Steven Reid both got ninety minutes under their belts on their return from injury, whilst Andre Ooijer, Roque Santa Cruz and of course Jason Roberts played their part in the victory.

"I was really pleased, we had a lot of guys that didn't have a great deal of training leading up to the game.

"Andre Ooijer I think had three or four sessions, David Dunn trained yesterday but hadn't trained since the last time he'd played so he put in an exceptional performance. Steven Reid as well, hadn't had a great deal of football leading into the game, but they've come through it hopefully and I was delighted for them.

"I thought we were nice and strong, nice and positive, always looked to be on the front foot, always asking questions, certainly in that second half and we really deserved the win today."

Rovers now have a brace of home games to contend with, as Middlesbrough and Everton come to Ewood Park in the next fortnight, and with just three points separating Rovers from a fourth place position, the incentive is certainly there to keep the unbeaten run going.
