Season ticket sales at Blackburn Rovers are up by nearly 10 per cent with less than a few weeks to go before the new Premier League campaign kicks off.

Rovers have cut the average cost of adult season tickets by 25 per cent and club officials say they are delighted with the response of supporters so far.

Already sales are better than they have been for the previous two seasons and with around a thousand season ticket holders still to renew Club officials hope to have even more signed up before their first home match at Ewood Park on Sunday, August 19, against Arsenal.

Rovers have used around £1 million of extra revenue generated by the new television deal to pass on savings to supporters in the form of reduced prices.

The cheapest season ticket is £249, the lowest in the Premier League, while the most expensive is £399. Junior season tickets cost just £99.

Simon Williams, Head of Commercial and Marketing at Blackburn, said: "We made a bold decision to cut the cost of watching football at Ewood Park after recognising the issue of cost was one of the reasons why some fans were staying away and we have been very encouraged by the sales of season tickets so far with our first home game still a few weeks away.

"There are still supporters who have not renewed their tickets and we are hopeful they will do so along with others who realise the great value we are offering to watch Premiership football.

"As well as sales increasing by ten per cent, there have been several encouraging trends in the figures including the highest proportion of adult season tickets holders for three seasons and some former season ticket holders renewing for the first time in nearly a decade. We are also seeing new fans buying season tickets.

"The Premier League is one of the strongest in the world and our new price structure takes into account the concerns of supporters about cost while doing our best to remain competitive on the pitch."
