FA Women's Cup (third round)
Nottingham Forest 0-3 Rovers Ladies
Danielle Sheen scored twice as Rovers Ladies booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Women's Cup courtesy of an impressive 3-0 victory away to Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
Lagan Makin set the tone in the first minute when she breezed past her full-back and whipped in a dangerous ball, which went right along the six-yard box.
Moments later, Katie Anderton had a shot from distance that went just wide, as Rovers pinned Forest back in their own half and continued the onslaught.
Forest were limited to the breakaway and from one of only three chances they had in the first half, a free-kick cleared everyone and went out for a goal kick.
Rovers continued to press and eventually made the breakthrough on 28 minutes. The ball was worked well down the left and played into Anderton, who rifled a left-foot shot over the keeper.
Seven minutes later and Rovers added a deserved second when Sheen went through and lobbed the oncoming keeper.
Scott Rogers' side could have had an immediate third, but the Forest keeper prevented the ball from going in the top corner and they cleared the resulting corner off the line following a strike from Kim Turner.
Rovers expected a reaction after the restart, but it was the visitors who again looked brighter and within five minutes Sheen had her second. The Forest defence tried to clear the ball, but it ricocheted off Anderton and rebounded off the keeper to Sheen, who fired past a crowd of bodies on the line.
Rovers continued to dominate and cut open their opposition at will. The Forest keeper was called upon to make several smart saves, whilst substitute Keeleigh Savage almost grabbed a fourth late on.
Rovers' reward is a fourth round tie away to local rivals Preston North End.
Rogers said: "We never doubted that we would win this game, which my players controlled from start to finish. I felt we were superior in every area of the pitch and 3-0 could have been a lot more on another day.
"The first two goals by Katie Anderton and Danielle Sheen were worthy of winning any game. I thought our midfield dictated the tempo of the game and our defence was extremely solid and was rewarded with a clean sheet.
"It was almost the complete performance and I think my players deserve all the praise they get. We must refocus our attentions now on the next game, but I'm sure if we maintain our levels of performance from recent weeks, then 2012 will be an exciting year for us."
