Premier League Cup (Game 1)
Rochdale 0-4 Rovers Ladies
Rovers Ladies kicked off their Women's Premier League Cup campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win away to Rochdale in their opening group game.
Two goals in each half secured the points for Adam Lakeland's side over the Northern Division opposition.
Levi Penny (pictured) scored her first goal since returning to the club with a low shot past the keeper. Danielle Sheen then scored her second goal in as many games to double Rovers' advantage.
Both players had chances to add to their tally in the first half, while Nicole Emmanuel rattled the crossbar and Katie Anderton sent a lob just wide after being played clean through.
Rovers continued to dominate after the break, with Nicky Twohig adding a third from the penalty spot after Emmanuel had been brought down inside the box.
Sheen again came close to grabbing her second, but saw a shot strike both posts before being cleared to safety.
Summer signing Charlotte Farrell then completed the scoring with her first goal in Rovers colours, overlapping down the right, before finishing off a fine passing move with a drilled shot across the keeper.
Lakeland said: "We want to do well in this competition, so the most important thing was to win the game and get the three points. We also kept a clean sheet, which will be good for our confidence.
"We should have scored a lot more goals than just four, but the pitch wasn't the best and the surface let us down at times in the final third.
"The players tried to play football from the back, but I thought we were much improved in the second half when I told them to get the ball forward quicker and be more direct.
"We were all pleased with the win and we can now turn our focus back to the league for a difficult game away to Reading this Sunday."
