Kind draw for Ladies

Posted on: Fri 09 Jul 2010

Blackburn Rovers Ladies have been handed a favourable draw in this season's Premier League Cup.

Adam Lakeland's side will play Lancashire rivals Preston North End, Curzon Ashton and Rochdale in the cup competition's new group format.

Seven groups of four teams, each containing at least one National Division club, will play each other once, with the top two teams guaranteed to progress to the knockout stages.

Rovers travel to Northern Combination League champions Rochdale on Sunday August 29th, before entertaining Preston at Radcliffe Borough on Sunday September 12th. Their final Group Two fixture is away to Curzon on Sunday October 3rd.

The four clubs are no strangers to each other, having met on several occasions in the Lancashire Challenge Cup in recent years.

Rochdale remain the only club to have beaten Rovers in the county cup competition in the past seven seasons, when they secured the title on penalties in 2009.

However, Rovers reclaimed the trophy last season, beating Rochdale 5-1 in the second round and PNE 3-1 in the semi-finals.
