Premier Reserve League
Rovers Ladies Reserves 2-1 Sunderland
Rovers Ladies Reserves moved level on points with Doncaster Belles at the top of the table courtesy of a 2-1 win over Sunderland.
Scott Rogers' side started strongly and took the lead with just 10 minutes gone. After some good work down the left, Nicole Foster (pictured) was on hand to tap home the rebound off the keeper.
The goal sparked a response from the visitors, who began to apply plenty of pressure and eventually equalised midway through the first half.
Sunderland had further chances to add to their tally, but fortunately for Rovers, the two teams went in level at the break.
Rovers regained a foothold in the game after the interval, with openings created at either end. Some great defending by Fran Sullivan helped keep Sunderland at bay and with nine minutes remaining, the hosts grabbed the winner.
Great vision from Becky Whittingham spotted the run of Nicole Hatcliffe, who coolly slotted home. Rovers almost grabbed a third late on when Hannah Forster sent Katie Chattell bombing down the line, but no-one had gambled on a cut back.
Rogers said: "We only seem to be turning up in one half at the moment, which is something I want to put right in the coming weeks. However, when you're not playing well and still picking up points, it is the sign of a very good side.
"We are in a strong position in the league and we are looking to build on that. I hope we can get our high performance levels back and continue to win games."
