Ladies up for the cup

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

Rovers Ladies will be hoping that history repeats itself when they take on Salford Ladies in the final of the Lancashire Challenge Cup at the LFA Headquarters this evening.

The last time the two teams met was in the 2008 final, which Adam Lakeland's side won 3-0.

That was the fifth year in succession that Rovers had lifted the trophy and after losing out to Rochdale on penalties last season, Lakeland is keen to retain the county crown.

"We played Salford two years ago and so know that they are a hard working team," he said.

"They will be strong for the first hour and will make it difficult for us to play. But I'm sure if my players turn up and show Salford the respect that they deserve, we'll be more than capable of winning back the trophy, which we desperately want to do."

Tonight's final will be played at the County Ground in Leyland ((kick-off 7pm). Tickets are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
