Ladies defeated by Everton
Sunday September 21, 2008
National Division, Shawbridge
Rovers 1-3 Everton
ROVERS Ladies slipped to their first defeat in four games, as title contenders Everton maintained their 100% start to the season.
England international Rachel Unitt opened the scoring for the visitors with a free header midway through the first-half, but Karen Burke responded for Rovers with a well-taken finish from Chantelle Parry's pass just before the break.
However, the Toffees moved to within a point of high-flying Chelsea after second-half strikes from Amy Kane and Natasha Dowie secured the points.
Manager Adam Lakeland said: "The scoreline was not a true reflection of the game. I was very pleased with the performance, especially in the first-half, but I was disappointed with the result and the manner of their goals.
"I had said all week that Everton would be dangerous at set-plays and I was proved right. We have got to stop being naïve against the top teams and only putting in a performance for 45 minutes."
ROVERS: Parker, Harding, Brewer, Twohig, Byrne, Burke, Shepherd, Preston, Campbell (McDougall 78), Parry (McCoy 78), Anderton.
Subs not used: Carroll.
