Katie injury only negative
A serious injury to star defender Katie Williams was the only negative after another great night for Rovers' Ladies.
The ladies lifted the Lancashire Challenge Cup for the fifth consecutive year after thrashing Salford SV 3-0 in the final on Wednesday.
However, a serious knee injury to right-back Williams, who is unlikely to feature again this season, blighted a fantastic night.
Manager Adam Lakeland said: "We are obviously delighted to have won the competition again, but it was a shame that Katie picked up a bad injury in the process.
"She will probably miss the remaining games of the season, but we all wish her a speedy recovery."
Goals from Natalie Preston, Katie Anderton and Levi Penny secured the victory for Rovers at the County Ground, Leyland.
"We certainly deserved to win," admitted Lakeland, "but perhaps the scoreline could have been more emphatic in the end.
"We started relatively slowly and our first touch let us down at times. That is perhaps because we haven't had a game for a while. However, when Katie was taken off early on, we had a chance to regroup and came back out much brighter.
"In terms of our play perhaps the only disappointing aspect was our inability to convert more of our chances. We had several opportunities to put the scoreline out of sight, but I cannot fault the effort of the girls. They went out there and got the job done.
"Credit must also go to Salford. They didn't turn up and stick 11 behind the ball as a lot of lower league sides have done against us recently. They came to win with an attacking formation and had a real go so fair play to them.
"We were always going to be under pressure being favourites, but once the first goal went in we settled down and got into our rhythm."
