Five star Ladies
ROVERS' Ladies lifted the Lancashire Challenge Cup for the fifth consecutive year with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Salford SV Ladies at the County Ground, Leyland on Wednesday evening.
Adam Lakeland's side went into the cup final strong favourites, and that experience told throughout with goals from Preston, Anderton and Penny securing the trophy for Rovers yet again.
Rovers started strongly and took the lead after just twelve minutes when a superb cross from Karen Hanson was headed home by Natalie Preston.
Katie Anderton added a second for Rovers from the penalty spot after the top-scorer had been brought down in the area on 38, but a serious knee injury to Katie Williams lead to a twenty minute delay in the game. The Rovers right-back being taken off to hospital with a suspected serious knee injury.
Despite that first half blow, Rovers were able to control the game for long periods, Levi Penny applying the finishing touch to another Hanson centre to make it 3-0 on 52 minutes.
The Salford side had a real go, playing an attacking formation in an attempt to shock their Premier League opponents, but they couldn't find a way back into the tie meaning Rovers were once again lifting the trophy.
