Ladies duo eager for England chance
KATIE Anderton and Kay Hawke will be hoping to make their senior England debuts when Hope Powell's side take on Iceland in an international friendly at Southend's Roots Hall tonight.
Having failed to make the squad for Sunday's unconvincing 4-0 victory over Northern Ireland, the Rovers duo will be eager for an opportunity to showcase their talents in the Three Lions' final warm-up fixture before this summer's World Cup.
Head Coach Hope said: "Iceland will be strong opponents and are a side growing in stature. In the last six months, they have had some mixed results - narrowly losing to the USA, beating China 4-1 at the Algarve Cup, but then drawing with the Republic of Ireland and losing to Italy.
"They will provide us with another tough game and as a team that didn't qualify for the World Cup, they will see us as a major potential scalp.
"In recent years we've had some key players injured at crucial times and all 30 players need to be prepared and on standby so that if required, they can perform a key role come the World Cup.
"The players know that no-one can take their place for granted. Although we can only take 21 players to China, the door is always open until it is closed, when we have to submit our final squad."
