STAR striker Katie Anderton and goalkeeping hero Kay Hawke have been rewarded for their outstanding form this season with call-ups to Hope Powell's senior England squad for a warm-weather training camp in La Manga.

The Rovers duo will fly out to Spain with the rest of the 29-player squad on Monday, as preparations continue apace for the Women's World Cup in September.

Katie, who has scored 35 goals in all competitions this season, said: "I'm very pleased. I didn't expect it at all. I was gearing myself up for going away with the Under-23s in the summer, so it's come as a bit of a shock. But I'll give it my all and hopefully impress enough to receive further call-backs so that I can do well for England in the future."

Head coach Hope added: "Katie has an eye for goal and is in a good run of scoring form. She has good technique and pace and has featured at youth international level. And it now seems she is hungry to push herself as far as she can."

Kay, who kept goal for the England Under-21s back in 2004, said: "I'm over the moon. I feel it's just reward for myself and Katie for the way we've been playing this season. We have become established Premier League players as the season's gone on and it's just nice to be recognised as goalkeepers don't always get the headlines that they often deserve."
