Adam Seedat with Jason Roberts |
A winner in the national Premier League/Department of Education and Skills "Aspiring Young Journalist" competition, local secondary schoolboy Adam Seedat attended the recent home game against West Ham United as a special guest of the Club.
Not only did Adam and his mum enjoy a fine pre-match meal and the post-match press conference but he was also invited to the tunnel to meet with Rovers' own headline star Jason Roberts who, on behalf of the Club, presented him with a trophy and signed football to mark his fantastic literary achievement.
Adam's competition entry, one of hundreds submitted to the competition through sports clubs' Playing for Success Centres, was a match report entitled 'Rovers Roar City Away' which recorded the home win against Manchester City earlier this season. The judging panel, including Mark Demuth (Assistant editor, Match of the Day) and Mick Dennis (sports writer for the Daily Express) felt that Adam's piece was well-structured, well-paced and informative, and that his passion for the club and for football generally was evident in his writing.
A second entry from the BRFC Playing for Success Centre to make the final 20 was written by Matthew Nuttall, a pupil from a local primary school. Matthew's piece - 'Rovers Crush City' - didn't come in the top three, although the judges felt it was a good piece of writing and he received a selection of prizes for getting to the national final which were recently presented to him at school.
