Our Modern Foreign Languages programme (French or German) has been introduced in recognition of the importance of transnational activity.

The ability to converse in a foreign language is a skill which is becoming increasingly important in the world of football today with more and more foreign players competing at all levels of the game and action from the Premier League in particular being of enormous interest to a wide international audience.

Armed with digital video equipment, pupils are given a behind the scenes tour of Ewood Park during which they take their own film shots, stopping to record comment in their chosen foreign language in preparation for the news report they will later make. Whenever possible the opportunity to visit the Club's TV studios is given. The group then moves on to the Media Theatre where, in the same room as foreign media personnel do their recordings, pupils get the chance to interview a Club player in his native language. With the hilarity and amusement evident at these meetings, who said languages aren't fun!

Back in the Education Department pupils use the ICT suite to edit their film and interview, combining sound effects, narrative and archive video clips to produce an exciting piece of multimedia work in their chosen language as a unique, personal report which can also later be used back at school to enthuse other pupils in their learning.

The programme is also designed to extend the personal aspirations of young people studying modern foreign languages, showing languages at work beyond the classroom and outside the career areas usually associated with the subject.
