England call for Jas

Posted on: Fri 06 Feb 2009

Centre of Excellence goalkeeper Jasmine Elliott has received international recognition with England's Under-17s.

Jasmine, who celebrated her 15th birthday last week, will join up with the rest of the 30-player squad for a training camp at Bisham Abbey later in the month.

It is also the second time in as many years that the Centre's head goalkeeping coach, Andy Fairman, has had a player progress through the national selection process.

Jasmine said: "To hear I'd made the squad was an amazing feeling. To get this opportunity is a dream come true.

"Andy's been a really big help. He's encouraged me and believed in me, and I probably wouldn't have reached this level without him."

Andy, who runs the Safe Hands Goalkeeping Academy, said: "Jas has done really well. She is a naturally talented keeper, who works very hard to try and improve every aspect of her game."

Centre of Excellence director Dean Grice added: "Obviously it is an absolutely fantastic acknowledgement for Jas and a fantastic achievement for the Centre.

"It reflects on the quality of the staff and of the quality of the players we have here now. It shows that we have real strength in depth, which is fantastic."
