Judge scored his second goal of the season in the win over Wolves |
ROVERS' under 18 side got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Academy side were able to put the disappointment of the defeat to Sunderland the previous weekend with a workmanlike victory over the Black Country side.
Rovers started strongly and found themselves in the lead after just three minutes, Alan Judge's corner was converted by Josh O'Keefe. His header did take a deflected on its way into the back of the net, but the Rovers midfielder will undoubtedly claim the goal.
The Lancashire side continued to force the pace, but it was only four minutes before the break that they got their reward of a second goal.
Alan Judge had been upended in the box and the Irishman dusted himself down to make no mistake, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way with a low strike to the left.
Jamie Clarke has been in fine goalscoring form so far this season, but he came up against a goalkeeper on top form just into the second half when Clarke was denied by a fine save.
The game appeared to be drifting to a comfortable victory until two minutes before time when Wolves were awarded a penalty. It was a decision that surprised everyone on the pitch.
The kick was converted and that lead to a nervous end to the game for Rovers, but they withstood the late pressure to record their fourth win of the season.
After the match Gary Bowyer said: "It was a very pleasing start to the game, we had a very young side out and they started the game very well.
"But we need to show a level of consistency and perform well for the full ninety minutes."
The Under 18s are next in action on Saturday when they take on Bolton Wanderers at Brockhall, kick-off 11.00am.
