The under 18s unbeaten start to the season came to an end at Brockhall on Saturday.
Gary Bowyer's young charges had started the season with six wins and two draws from their eight games, but against a strong Liverpool side they couldn't stretch that unbeaten run to nine as they slipped to a 3-0 home defeat.
After a cagey start Rovers created their two best chances of the match within the opening 15 minutes.
A Tom Hitchcock flick set Josh Morris away on goal on 13 minutes, but Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Oldfield stood strong and blocked the shot.
A minute later and the Liverpool 'keeper was called into action once again when an audacious effort from Jason Banton deemed to be destined for the top corner until Oldfield clawed it away from under his bar.
From that point onwards however Rovers were decidedly second best and they fell behind when a hesitant Josh Swann conceded a soft penalty after upending the Liverpool attacker in the area.
James Ellison made no mistake from the resulting 23rd minute spot kick sending Swann the wrong way.
Fresh from his exploits in Turkey on duty for the Irish under 18s, defender Anthony O'Connor then stopped Liverpool from extending that lead on the half hour but the Irishman cleverly hooked the ball clear off his own line.
The home side were dealt a blow at half time as midfielder Gearoid Morrissey was unable to continue due to a knee injury, but despite the reshuffle Rovers continued to struggle offensively.
The second half was slow to get going with very little in the way of action in either penalty area until 72 minutes when Liverpool should have doubled their lead when Tom Ince had time to pick his spot but somehow put his back post header straight up in the air allowing Rovers to clear.
At the other end Josh Morris headed over a Jason Banton corner kick, then when well placed shot straight at the goalkeeper.
But two goals in the last ten minutes saw any chance of a Rovers revival well and truly extinguished. Substitute Michael Ngoo making it 2-0 after a neat passing move on 83 minutes, then the Liverpool man took full advantage of a dropped catch from Swann to tap home with a minute remaining.
To compound Rovers' miserable day Michael Potts was shown the red card at the final whistle for dissent.
