Academy defeat Hearts

Posted on: Mon 10 Aug 2009

Rovers' under 18s kept up their fine pre-season form with a 2-0 win over Scottish side Hearts on Saturday.

In a lively encounter, Rovers played some good passing football throughout, scoring two unanswered goals.

Great build-up play in the 25th minute saw Rovers break the deadlock, Josh Morris slipping the ball through to Micah Evans who scored with a fine right-footed effort.

Then on the stroke of half time, a great one-two between Tom Hitchcock and Josh Morris saw Morris go on and double Rovers' lead.

Rovers should have scored further goals, Hitchcock missed a great chance from a Morris cross, but headed down and the goalkeeper saved, then despite showing good control of the ball with his chest, the Rovers striker failed to get his shot away when well placed.

"It was a good lively game," said Rovers coach Gary Bowyer. "The players got more fitness under their belts and at times we played some good stuff.

"We scored two very good goals and I'm pleased with the effort, I hope they show that again when we face Sunderland on Sunday."
