ROVERS' under 18s brushed aside Bolton Wanderers at the weekend with a comfortable 2-0 win.

First half goals from Josh Morris and Jake Simpson gave Gary Bowyer's side a lead that they rarely looked relinquishing as they ran out comfortable winners for their second away win of the season.

Rovers signaled their intentions as early as they third minute when Jordan Bowen and Jake Simpson combined well on the right, but whilst Simpson's low centre caused the Bolton defence problems, no Rovers player could take advantage.

Phil Jones' overhead kick from a Bowen corner landed on the roof of the net as Rovers continued to press. But whilst enjoying plenty of possession, there wasn't the dynamic play that had been evident seven days earlier in their 4-0 win over Liverpool.

But just past the midway mark of the half Rovers finally unlocked the Bolton defence to take the lead when midfielder Jason Lowe threaded a fine ball through to the left of the area where Josh Morris cut in to find the far corner of the net with a sweet strike, his third of the season and a near-identical strike to the one scored against Liverpool last week.

Four minutes later Morris nearly doubled his, and Rovers' tally. Again cutting in from the left flank he shot towards goal but the ball deflected narrowly wide.

However on 31 minutes Bolton had their first attack of the game and came within inches of levelling when the outside of the post was clipped from an effort from the edge of the area.

That prompted Bolton's best spell of pressure in the first half as Rovers found themselves on the back foot, but five minutes before the break quick passing play saw Jordan Bowen find Jake Simpson just inside the area and he swept the ball home to double Rovers' lead.

The second half saw a much more even contest, Bjorn Bussmann in the Rovers goal had a couple of straightforward shots to save, but on 66 minutes a Bolton striker went close to reducing arrears when he managed to round Bussmann in the area but from an acute angle he put the ball wide.

Rovers responded with an effort of their own, a cross from the left from Jake Simpson was headed out only as far as Jason Lowe but his well-struck shot was brilliantly saved.

The final ten minutes of the game saw the game open up, a Bolton player headed narrowly wide from a corner kick, then Bussmann showed his promising credentials with two stunning saves in quick succession to keep Bolton at bay.

Rovers could have grabbed further goals themselves, Morris fizzed an effort narrowly wide of the far post, whilst a surging run from substitute Gearoid Morrissey saw him beat two men and the goalkeeper with his shot but the ball was cleared off the line.

A lengthy period of added time was played, but neither side threatened to add to the goal tally.
