ROVERS' under 18s completed their season preparations with a 1-0 victory over Hull City at Brockhall on Friday afternoon.

An own goal just past the hour mark settled this tight affair that saw plenty of endeavour but was short of goalmouth chances.

The match started brightly with Josh Morris striking the outside of the post after just eight minutes after cutting in from the left, then moments later the winger was in the thick of the action once again, but he put his effort narrowly wide.

At the midway point of the first half Rovers had the ball in the back of the net twice in quick succession, the first a quickly taken free-kick was ruled out, the second a when the ball from the right had gone out of play before being forced home by Tom Hitchcock.

Bjorn Bussmann in the Rovers goal had little to do in the first half, but five minutes after the restart he made a fine double save to keep Hull at bay.

The deadlock was finally broken on 63 minutes when a Martin McCubbin cross from the left caused confusion and the Hull defender headed into the back of his own net.

McCubbin volleyed narrowly wide after a Jake Simpson cross, then Simpson himself headed wide after a flowing move saw Michael Potts pick him out with a centre.

Hull had the last effort at goal five minutes from time, but a rising effort was never going to trouble sub' Arestidou.

The under 18s season starts on Saturday 23rd August when Coventry City are the visitors to Brockhall, kick-off 11.30am.
