Honours even in Ireland

Posted on: Fri 14 Mar 2008

The Republic of Ireland and Germany under 17s sides played out a 1-1 draw at Terryland Park, Galway last night with all three Rovers representatives involved.

The game saw Irish Rovers duo Aaron Doran and Gavin Gunning come up against goalkeeper Bjorn Bussman for Germany.

The visitors took the lead through Felix Kroos, his effort taking a deflection off defender Gunning and into the back of the net.

But Ireland equalised in the second half, Greg Cunningham firing home on 67 minutes.

Aaron Doran almost won it for Ireland in the final throes, but his stinging shot was pushed away by Bussman.

In the other Group 1 game, Portugal and Greece also drew 1-1.

Saturday sees Ireland take on Greece in Athlone whilst Germany face Portugal in Galway.
