Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has praised his players for the effort and quality they have produced at their pre-season training camp in Portugal.

After arriving in the Algarve on Monday, the 27-man squad have been put through their paces in searing temperatures as they prepare for the start of the 2013-14 Championship campaign.

"It's been a good couple of days so far," said the Rovers boss. "The facility that we've got here is excellent.

"We arrived on Monday and the players were immediately prepared to work hard.

"We did two sessions on Tuesday of real quality and then on Wednesday we were really impressed with them because they went for three sessions.

"The standard that they're producing and the levels that they're hitting has been a great effort from everyone involved.

"We toned it down a little bit yesterday, to let the lads recover, and so that we can go hard again today. We've then got the game on Saturday.

"The main focus of the game is not necessarily the result, it's just their fitness levels again.

"We said that against Wrexham. With the first two games, you're just looking at getting their fitness levels hit and getting their timings going again on the pitch.

"We'll do the same as what we did last week, where they'll all get 45 minutes, but they'll be going into the game tired because they will have had a hard week.

"It's just about pushing them beyond the limits a little bit with the game and we're looking forward to it.

"Portimonense will be an interesting challenge, because they'll be used to this heat that's for sure.

"The heat has been really intense and that's cranked up the level of difficulty for them, but they've coped well with it."

Bowyer also believes that the week away from Brockhall will serve as a great team bonding exercise and will help the summer signings to settle in with the rest of the squad.

"I've been really impressed with how well the new lads have settled in to the group," added the manager.

"Obviously being away from Brockhall, we're living together and they're seeing each other a lot more than they would when they're just at the training ground.

"They've got their evening downtime where they're all together and they've bonded well and there's a good spirit about the place.

"They're relaxed and they're enjoying each other's company and they're appreciating the hard work that they're all putting into it.

"Around the place in the training ground before we came out there was a different feel, that's for sure. Now we've come out here, there is a real good feel about the group.

"We're looking to add one or two more, but the people that we'll add have got to be good characters who can fit in with the group.

"Tayls (Chris Taylor), Killa (Matt Kilgallon), Alex Marrow, Judger (Alan Judge), Easty (Simon Eastwood) and Toddy (Todd Kane) have all done it.

"You wouldn't think that they'd just arrived at the club, which is great and it bodes well for us for the future."
