Rovers' Under-18s slipped to a disappointing 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers at Brockhall on Saturday.

David Lowe's young charges twice came from behind thanks to first goals of the season for Yeray Torres and George Pierce but it wasn't enough as the Trotters scored late to secure all three points.

Rovers went into the game in good heart after back-to-back victories but a sloppy start to the match gave the visitors the advantage and they duly took the lead on 11 minutes.

A ball in from the left found Christopher Cvetko in space on the edge of the box and he fired home. Rovers' 'keeper Callum Williams got a hand to the shot but he couldn't prevent the ball going in off the post.

An off-colour Rovers had rarely threatened but levelled on 23 from their first meaningful attack of the half. Dropping deep to receive the ball, Sam Joel fed Yeray Torres through on goal and he made no mistake with a composed finish past the onrushing Campbell.

The second half started as the first with the visitors in the ascendency, creating a host of decent chances, but just as it looked like Rovers had weathered the storm, the Trotters regained the lead on 57 minutes.

Rovers were slow to react to a quick throw as it reached Cvetko and the Bolton midfielder drilled the ball low into the corner for his second of the game.

Hyuga Tanner was introduced for Rovers on the hour mark and he made an immediate impression as he had a hand in the equaliser seven minutes later.

Tanner fed Joel with his back to goal, receiving the return pass to find George Pierce and the youngster steered the ball home.

A Modou Cham cross found Yeray Torres hunting his second of the game but he fired wide at the near post, whilst at the other end Bolton substitute Guillermo Torres saw a header well saved.

However with a minute left of the 90 two Bolton substitutes combined as Jamie Hinchcliffe crossed from the right and Guillermo Torres swept the ball beyond Williams with a first time effort.

It was a poor ending to a poor performance from the young Rovers.

ROVERS: Williams, Vicars, Lavelle, Butterwick, Doyle, Wassi (sub Langford 90+2 mins), Pierce, Harris (sub Tanner 60 mins), Torres (sub Wall 75 mins), Cham, Joel.
