The 23-year-old limped out of last weekend's win over Reading with an ankle injury and although scans have shown no serious damage, the midfielder is touch and go to feature against the Trotters.
Speaking to Rovers Player
on Thursday afternoon, manager Gary Bowyer said: "Tom is going to be close, so we are going to give him every opportunity to get through.
"He has been working well this week with the medical team so fingers crossed on that.
"He has been an important player for us this season and has done ever so well, so as long as he is back quickly rather than taking too long then we'll be happy with that."
Two players who are on the road to recovery are Joshua King and Dickson Etuhu with the manager reporting that both are making good progress.
"Josh is close," added Bowyer. "We are hoping to welcome him back at the beginning of next week. We've missed his pace a little bit.
"Dickson has joined in two sessions this week with us so he is coming back with us so that is a timely boost as well.
"From a manager's point of view it would be fantastic to have a fully fit squad, but the realism is that it very rarely happens at football clubs nowadays.
"The medical team and the sport's science team do a magnificent job for us."
