Rovers' Under-21s threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Everton on Monday evening.

An early goal from Nuno Henrique was added to by John O'Sullivan's thunderous strike just after the break as Gary Bowyer's side looked to be on their way to earning the points at Southport.

But late goals from Ross Barkley, Apostolos Vellios and an injury-time winner from Conor McAleny saw the home side triumph as the game was turned on it's head in dramatic fashion.

Speaking after the game, Under-21s coach Gary Bowyer wasn't impressed with how his side ended the match.

"You look at the three goals that we concede, especially the first two, and it is very poor defending from us," said Bowyer.

"With their third there was an element of offside but again we didn't defend it very well.

"For as well as we did for the first 75 minutes the game doesn't last that long. The character and desire was questioned in the last 15 minutes when Everton had some pressure and momentum.

"We were looking for the players to stand up and be counted and that is the disappointment in that it was questionable when it really mattered.

"Thankfully we have the chance to get this result out of our system quickly when we face Fulham on Friday night at Ewood Park in what should be a good game."
