The St. James' Park defeat ended New Zealand's faint hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the men's Olympic Football Tournament.
Brazil started strongly and opened the scoring on 23 minutes when Danilo played a neat one-two with Leandro Damiao before finishing well.
Six minutes later, a back heel from Real Madrid’s Marcelo found Alex Sandro, who teed up Damiao to double their lead.
Brazil built on their half-time advantage in the 53rd minute when Sandro tapped in Marcelo’s free-kick, but the Samba stars were forced to play the last 15 minutes with 10 men after Alex Sandro received two bookings in quick succession.
As in the first two group games and Belarus and Egypt, Tim again played the full 90 minutes and will have benefitted greatly from the experienmce of rubbing shoulders with some of the world's top talent, including the highly-rated Neymar (pictured).
