In their league outings against Birmingham City and Yeovil Town, Rovers have had 25 shots at goal in each game, but only have three goals.
Now as Rovers prepare to take on Leeds United on New Years Day, the manager is keen to see them start to convert more of the chances.
"We keep saying about being ruthless in front of goal and I think for the amount of chances that we created against Birmingham we should be taking more and we should have been winning the game," said Bowyer.
"We strangely go into the game in confidence for the way they played with the ball against Birmingham, but we have to be better off the ball, we can't keep giving goals away in the manner that we did.
"It is a great game for us, I'm sure there'll be a good atmosphere there, and as ever we'll probably have a good following so it is something that our players are already looking forward to."
