Rovers wait on Rudy news

The joy of victory over Huddersfield Town was tempered somewhat by yet more injuries to key players.

The major concern at the John Smith's Stadium was for striker Rudy Gestede who had to be stretchered off after a collision with Terriers captain Peter Clarke.

The former Cardiff City frontman was knocked unconscious in the clash, and after a lengthy period of treatment on the pitch, was eventually stretchered off and taken straight to hospital.

Rovers now await news of the popular forward and hope that it will be positive.

"The latest we know is that he has gone off to hospital so we are waiting on updates from there," said Rovers boss Gary Bowyer.

"I have to say that the fourth official was absolutely outstanding, because the referee had missed it and the fourth official hadn't.

"He acted quickly and we've got to thank him for that because he helped us massively to get Dave Fevre and the Doc on quickly.

"Fingers crossed we'll hopefully have some good news on the big man. His contribution since he came to the club only a couple of months ago has been massive.

"We wish him well and we hope that he is back and ready to play next week."

Rudy Gestede has since tweeted that he is fine, which is good news:

Rovers not only lost Rudy Gestede but also Jason Lowe in the first half after landing awkwardly. Alas the sight of a Rovers player leaving a football ground in a protective boot is an all too common one.

"I don't know what we've done in terms of the ankles but we keep on picking them up," added the manager.

"I don't think there was anyone around him or any contact, he just signalled across that he couldn't carry on.

"So it is majorly disappointing from those two points of view, we just hope that we can recover quickly and get ready for the tough eleven games that we've got left starting with Leicester."

Leicester City are the visitors to Ewood Park next Saturday. Tickets are on open sale priced from £19 Adults, £12 Seniors and £7 Juniors.
