Blackburn Rovers are deeply saddened to learn that former Ladies midfielder Emma McDougall has lost her brave battle with cancer.

The 21-year-old joined Rovers from Fletcher Moss in January 2008 and went on to make 30 first team appearances, scoring five goals.

A wing wizard, with lightning quick pace, Emma made her debut in a 17-0 victory over Brazil Ladies in the quarter-finals of the Lancashire Cup a month after arriving and scored her first goals for the club in a 7-2 victory over Rotherham United in the Premier League Cup.

A family statement read: “It is with great sadness that Mike, Sandy and husband Stefan wanted to officially notify Blackburn Rovers that Emma passed away in the early hours of this morning at approximately 2.15am, with loving mother, father, husband, grandparents, closest family and Krystal and Karen by her side.”

Rovers Ladies manager Scott Rogers, who worked with Emma at reserve team level, said: “She was a special talent and it’s a tragic shame that she has been taken from us too early. On behalf of at everyone at the club, I would like to send our sincere condolences to Emma’s family and friends at this sad time.”
