Rovers' Under-18s disappointed on Saturday as they slipped to a 5-2 defeat away at Aston Villa.
Rovers started poorly, bounced back quickly to level but had no response to a second half showing from Villa that saw them score three unanswered goals.
Terry McPhillips' side went into the game off the back of an encouraging 2-0 win over Arsenal, but they couldn't repeat that feat in the midlands.
They started sloppily and found themselves two goals down inside the first twenty minutes. It was all too easy for Villa.
The away side responded quickly however, Dean Rittenberg sending over a great cross for Deniz Pero to head home on 24.
Then Yeray Torres got his first Rovers goal on 36 minutes to even up the scores before the break, the Spaniard taking advantage of the space afforded to him to drive towards goal before smashing it home.
But whilst Rovers ended the first half strongly, they couldn't carry that into the second half as Villa got a third goal with 15 minutes to go.
As Rovers struggled, Villa took full advantage with two further goals in the closing stages to complete a miserable afternoon.
"We weren't very good, we just weren't competitive like we were the week before," said McPhillips.
"At half-time I didn't think we could do any worse but I was wrong. I couldn't believe it because we'd trained ever so well. Hopefully this is a blip."
